Training Day: Climbing at the Pillary

We have one more week of volume climbing before we start the next training block. Jonty is on vacation for the last two weeks of my sabbatical, so we were able to get in a nice quiet Monday-morning climbing session outside at an area called The Pillary. It’s just north of Squamish and Brohm Lake, and is in the same area as the Area 44 crag.

The rock is west-facing, so its best to get there early in the morning during the warm summer days, as it quickly becomes hot and unbearable once the sun comes around, with fingers sweating upon contact with the rock. Most of the grades are around 5.9 to 5.11+ and quite long (22 to 28m), making it a good area to get a lot of climbing in.

The views are certainly spectacular too, which always helps!

The weather is slated to heat up over the weekend and into next week, so we will have a few early morning alarms (5am!!!) to avoid climbing in the mid-day sun!

Next week we’ll post about the second phase – Strength!!
