A Few Days at the Druid Stones

Last Sunday we hiked up to the Druid Stones bouldering field to check out the problems. It was cold and snowing, but the boulders looked so nice that we knew we would come back later in the week once the weather cleared. We both found a couple of boulder problems that inspired us, and we were excited to get back up to climb them – our inspiration lines! We spent Thursday and Friday up there this week. The stone was grippy (perhaps a bit TOO grippy… picture to come…), the problems were super fun, and we both had some successful sends!

The views on the way up the mountain were much nicer on Thursday than during the snowstorm!

I’ve taken more pictures of rock on the country-side than I care to admit, but I can’t help it!!!

The 400+ meter vertical hike up to the Druids is pretty significant, especially when you have 25 extra pounds strapped to your back, in the form of bouldering pads and climbing gear.

We’re almost there, honey, honest!!

We quickly decided that we were going to stash our pads somewhere at the top of the mountain on Thursday evening, to avoid having to carry the pads up and down for two days. Best. Decision. Ever.

Jonty, much happier after ridding himself of a bouldering pad and 3 litres of water!

Thursday was “Jonty’s Day”. He sent two out of three of his inspiration lines, running out of energy to complete the top-out on the third (but he did finish it first go on Friday!). It was great to see him see him succeed on his chosen problems, we’ll upload a few videos shortly!

Friday was “Moira’s Day”. I sent two problems on my inspiration lines. One was a scary top-out (for me) and the other was a thin, reach-y line that I didn’t think I had the strength to do (again, video to come, shortly!).

We had initially thought we would be leaving Bishop this weekend, but we’ve changed our plans (ah, the benefit of not having a schedule!) and will stay here for a few more days to complete some un-finished problems.
